The Deputy Directors of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) in Dubna, Dr. Lačezar Kostov and Dr. Lubka Kostov, paid a two-day visit to the Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences on May 8th and 9th.
They were welcomed at the Institute by the Director of the Institute, Dr. Slavko Dimović, Deputy Director, Dr. Marija Janković, Assistant Director for Technological Development, Dr. Predrag Škobalj, Assistant Director for Security, Dr. Milica Ćurčić, and Head of the Center "Operativa", Dr. Ivan Lazović.
After the presentation about the Institute, the visit continued in the Physics Laboratory, where Dr. Jasmina Grbović-Novaković and Dr. Srđan Petrović showed the FAMA facility and happily discussed its possibilities and potential with the visitors. This was followed by a visit to the Laboratory for Radiation Chemistry and Physics, where Dr. Maksim Ivanov and Dr. Mina Medic welcomed them.
As part of the second day of the visit, a meeting was also organized at the Ministry of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation of the Republic of Serbia. During the meeting, current and potential directions of cooperation in the field of nuclear sciences and related disciplines were discussed. Special attention was paid to the participation of scientists and researchers from the Republic of Serbia, including experts from the Vinča Institute for Nuclear Sciences, in current and future OINI projects. Assistant Minister Ivana Vukašinović emphasized the strategic importance of cooperation with the Institute in Dubna for the development of scientific expertise and strengthening the international position of the Republic of Serbia in the field of nuclear sciences. She also highlighted the key role of the Vinča Institute for Nuclear Sciences as the leading institution in Serbia in this field and the potential for further expansion of cooperation. Dr. Kostov emphasized the importance of the continuous engagement of Serbian scientists and expressed satisfaction with their contribution to scientific research conducted in Dubna.
The visit continued at the Institute, in the Radioisotope Laboratory, where they were welcomed by Dr. Marija Mirković. This was followed by a tour of the Laboratory for Molecular Biology and Endocrinology, in the presence of the head, Dr. Snezana Pejić. Another laboratory they had the opportunity to visit was the Laboratory for Radiation Protection and Environmental Protection, where Dr. Marija Šljivić-Ivanović, in the presence of Dr. Jelena Krneta-Nikolić, Dr. Miloš Živaović, and Dr. Predrag Božović, gave a lecture on the history, activities, and future of the Laboratory. The interlocutors agreed on the importance of supporting the mobility of researchers, joint research projects, and organizing scientific meetings.
A visit like this represents a significant step in improving cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, with special emphasis on the involvement and contribution of the Vinča Institute for Nuclear Sciences.
