Vlada Srbije je na sednici održanoj u utorak 28 avgusta 2018. godine donela akt o sticanju statusa instituta od nacionalnog značaja za Institut za nuklearne nauke "Vinča". Tako je najveći institut u Republici Srbiji koji je specifičan po multidisciplinarnosti svojih istraživanja, primeni i komercijalizaciji rezultata istraživanja stekao status instituta od nacionalnog značaja za Republiku Srbiju.

U oktobru 2018. godine potpisan je po treći uzastopni put Memorandum o razumevanju u oblasti naučne i tehnološke saradnje između Instituta za nuklearne nauke Vinča, Univerziteta u Beogradu i Laboratori Nazionali del Sud, Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (LNS-INFN), iz Italije. Kao i prethodni, ovaj sporazum trajaće tri godine.
