In a recent appearance on the morning program of Radio Television of Serbia (RTS), the Director of the Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences, Dr. Slavko Dimović, discussed the potential integration of nuclear energy into Serbia’s energy system, emphasizing the important role that the Vinča Institute can play in this national development path.

In the segment titled “Serbia Facing a Decision on Nuclear Energy,” Dr. Dimović highlighted that the Republic of Serbia is currently in a phase of making strategic decisions that will shape its energy future. He placed particular emphasis on the importance of preparing a preliminary technical study, which, as he explained, will include an analysis of the nuclear fuel supply chain, a comparative evaluation of existing global technologies, and a review of the differences between conventional and modular reactors. The study will also address the technical challenges of integrating nuclear energy into Serbia’s power grid.

Dr. Dimović pointed out the rich technical and scientific heritage of the Vinča Institute and its strong capacity to support the state in this crucial process.

He announced the establishment of a Nuclear Commission — an expert advisory body that will bring together leading professionals in the field of nuclear energy, with the aim of providing a reliable foundation for future strategic decisions.

The importance of investing in the education and training of young professionals through scholarships and advanced training programs was also emphasized, to help Serbia build its own pool of experts in the field of nuclear science and technology.

Dr. Dimović’s appearance once again reaffirmed the importance of the Vinča Institute as a central national institution in ongoing discussions related to Serbia’s energy transition and the potential adoption of nuclear energy in the country’s energy mix.
