First research activities in the field of X-ray crystallography were started in the “Vinca” Institute of Nuclear Sciences before more than four decades by Dr Rajna Herak (retired in 1991) and Dr Bogdan Prelesnik (deceased in 1996). Both of them were prominent crystallographers in the former Yugoslav Center for Crystallography. They published many papers in different area of single-crystal and powder X-ray crystallography and did great effort for formation of a crystallographic research group and purchase of an Enraf-Nonius CAD4 diffractometer.

 

Today our crystallographic group has four researchers who work in the field of single-crystal X-ray crystallography and different research projects dedicated to crystal structure of transition metal complexes, weak intermolecular interactions, hydrogen bonds, supramolecular structures, CSD database studies, experimental charge density studies etc.
